That's an abomination to say the least, but the biggest obstacle to the progress of, well, anything in the US has been Christian fundamentalists, not Islamic ones.

Catholics are actually much more accepting of homosexuals than many Christian denominations. There are several studies to support this.

Seems like some people love to bash the Catholic church. Are Southern Baptists more accepting of homosexuality? Mormons? Muslims?

All major religions seem to discourage the acceptance of homosexuality from what I've seen.
