And homeowners are the biggest consumers of government freebies. <Most states have "split roll" property taxes where homeowners get a nice low preferential property tax rate, and other property (like rental property) is taxed at a higher rate.

So if your home is subject to split roll taxes, pay your fair share of property taxes instead of leeching off the landlords and tenants of your community.

I'm unskilled, unemployed, and over 50. It's highly unlikely that an employer would hire me for a good job given the above.
And again, I would tell you that you CAN improve your lot in life, and that the gov't did not determine that you could not split the lot for no reason. I mentioned lots of reasons earlier.

You're kidding, right? Nobody is forced to use a gov't program. Sure, things happen, and I can understand welfare for people on a very limited basis, say for 6 months. There should not be a 2-year waiting list to get section 8...I mean, what are you doing to support yourself during those years you're waiting? Obviously you CAN support yourself. That right there totally debunks the entire argument for section 8 in this day and age.

Haven't we been over this already? See my previous posts about this.

Sounds like an ideal downtown neighborhood right?

Well, we also have 16 section 8 complexes in my neighborhood. So we have drunk people peeing in the street, weekly stabbings/shootings/beatings, drug problems, terrible schools, vandalism etc etc.

Despite decades of federal funding going into these complexes, the local population hasn't made an inch of progress. It has just subsidized multi-generational poverty and reliance on the vouchers, among other programs.

It's not just a waste, it's actually damaging the community.
Sounds like a cultural thing.

Some cultures are just like that, unfortunately.

I am willing to bet that those are not section 8 complexes but rather DCHA complexes, which do not rely on section 8, but are low income housing complexes.

THAT is why my question is relevant.
What are you yammering about?
I own two houses and they're paid off. I bought the first one when I made <$15k/year.
If you can't afford to own, it's not the government's problem.

This is true. I've read studies that Section 8 is a boon to marginal landlords.

The mortgage deduction is on life support. I'd be surprised if it lasts through the decade. Then again with the lack of leadership in Washington anything is possible.
