I'll judge the fricken program......pay you OWN rent.....when did it become Big Brothers job. Oh yeah, that is right, we are now basically a welfare type country. And yes I guess old Ronnie was right about the Welfare Queens.......yep......Old Ronnie was spot on.
And homeowners are the biggest consumers of government freebies. <Most states have "split roll" property taxes where homeowners get a nice low preferential property tax rate, and other property (like rental property) is taxed at a higher rate.
So if your home is subject to split roll taxes, pay your fair share of property taxes instead of leeching off the landlords and tenants of your community.
Earlier in this thread I offered the example of the $40K guest house I rented for several years; the only reason I was unable to buy it is that government determined that it could not be split from a larger house with which it shared a lot. I'm saying the only thing which stopped me was government, so yeah, I am pointing the finger at government.
I'm unskilled, unemployed, and over 50. It's highly unlikely that an employer would hire me for a good job given the above.
And again, I would tell you that you CAN improve your lot in life, and that the gov't did not determine that you could not split the lot for no reason. I mentioned lots of reasons earlier.
Wow! 125 posts that are largely ignorant regarding the section 8 program and very lacking in understanding and compassion for the people who are forced to use them.
You're kidding, right? Nobody is forced to use a gov't program. Sure, things happen, and I can understand welfare for people on a very limited basis, say for 6 months. There should not be a 2-year waiting list to get section 8...I mean, what are you doing to support yourself during those years you're waiting? Obviously you CAN support yourself. That right there totally debunks the entire argument for section 8 in this day and age.

Haven't we been over this already? See my previous posts about this.
I live walking distance from the White House in DC in a neighborhood called Shaw. It's the geographic center of the city, and hosts amazing architecture and history. The average townhome dates back to 1890-1910, is 2000 square feet and are mostly owned by long-time residents of the city or young families starting out.
Sounds like an ideal downtown neighborhood right?
Well, we also have 16 section 8 complexes in my neighborhood. So we have drunk people peeing in the street, weekly stabbings/shootings/beatings, drug problems, terrible schools, vandalism etc etc.
Despite decades of federal funding going into these complexes, the local population hasn't made an inch of progress. It has just subsidized multi-generational poverty and reliance on the vouchers, among other programs.
It's not just a waste, it's actually damaging the community.

I am willing to bet that those are not section 8 complexes but rather DCHA complexes, which do not rely on section 8, but are low income housing complexes.
No one's forcing anyone to be a landlord, but government IS forcing me to be a tenant (by not allowing ownership options I can afford), which means that government is taking my money through split roll taxation and redistributing it to homeowners.
THAT is why my question is relevant.
What are you yammering about?
I own two houses and they're paid off. I bought the first one when I made <$15k/year.
If you can't afford to own, it's not the government's problem.
Eliminate the mortgage deduction and you'll see a depression.
If we keep our current level of spending and forgoing revenue a depression would be the least of our worries.
The mortgage deduction is on life support. I'd be surprised if it lasts through the decade. Then again with the lack of leadership in Washington anything is possible.

LOL!! And with that I skipped the rest of your sanctimonious post.
