I am trying to understood why children who are raised by gay or lesbian families are better behaved, do better in school, and become more productive members of society than a lot children who grew up with a father and mother.

Of course not, but I could say, oh I know it is true cause I have a family member and gay friends: most of them drink too much...Do you realize how silly your conclusion is? How many gay and lesbian families do you really know? I can almsot guarantee you not many, as most do not have children. This is changing.

Substance abuse is a huge problem in the gay community (it's directly connected to and essentially causes the HIV/AIDS problem in the gay community - the two are insepeable). In a nutshell, it's grounded in the massive amount of torment and abuse gay youth are subjected to in this society starting from the time they know they're gay (usually between age 9-13). Preteens and teenagers just aren't equipped to handle that kind of suffocating pressue and abuse they're subjected to every day by everything and everyone around them. Could you imagine from the ages of say 11-19 hearing every day from your family, your church, your friends at school, etc that you are innately evil, wrong, immoral, and deserving of scorn and mistreatment? It drives lots of gay youth to self-destructive behaviors (substance abuse, running away, suicide attempts).
