Christened Catholic as an infant, baptized by immersion Baptist as a child, explorer of various religions/spiritual beliefs as a young/middle aged adult, and atheist as a senior citizen.
What about lack of proof? Does lack of proof require faith?
Atheists don't require proof for their belief system. Their belief system is not based on lack of proof. It's based on their belief that there is no deity.
Maybe you are thinking of Agnostic? which isn't the same as Atheist.
Atheism and the traditional "religions" each have a belief system about the existence and nature of our universe. A set of beliefs without proof is a "religion" of sorts.
Atheists claim a deity doesn't exist; traditional religions claim a deity exists.
Atheists have no proof for their belief system just as those from traditional "religions" have no proof for their belief systems.
They are logically the same -- each operates without proof on a belief with faith in that belief.

Its stupid to try and disprove something that there is no proof of, mainly because there is no proof of it.
Its kind of like intelligence in Washington. I've heard stories of it, but little to no evidence. Should I continue to believe in intelligence in Washington not seeing it? Nooo.
That doesn't diminish that some people feel that God is still there, thats up to them. Atheism isn't a religion, and it requires no faith outside of ones own good logical sense. Anyone who is a real Christian will have to admit, the story is far fetched to say the least. Thats why they call it faith, because it requires no evidence.

All infants are born atheist. If they lived their entire lives without knowledge of God, they would continue to be atheist: 'a' - without knowledge; 'theos' - gods. No "belief" is required.

Exactly^ look what you wrote [in bold]. Atheism is a belief. A belief without proof requires faith in that belief. Atheists have no more proof of their belief as do Christians or any other.
They both have faith in their beliefs, and neither can prove a darn thing.
The way you atheists love pushing your beliefs and rationale on us, it's starting to sound like a belief system everyday
Name legislation that atheist groups have spent millions on to shape public policy the way other major religions do.
