Sounds like a case of "bad batches" having horrible, unintended effects. Does anyone trust a common street chemist to manufacture something they intend to put in their bodies? Goodness, might as well take a swig next time you go to fill up the tank.

According to the article, "krok" is made by altering codeine, which is naturally occurring, and derives from the poppy plant.
The article posted earlier said it was invented in the U.S. What is different is people making it themselves and getting the formula wrong. They say it has a good use, but I find that hard to believe. We've got so many drugs now, did we really need to introduce this one?
The pharmaceutical Desomorphine was invented in the US. The homemade form was invented in Russia.
It's not German Neuling, Krokodil is a perfectly Russian word.
Leave it up to Russians to come up with something as "thrilling" as this drug.
The continuity of the Russian roulette...
Well, Krokodil is the German spelling of crocodile, the Russian word is Крокодил. So I was just wondering why they use the German word in the West instead of the English one...

No, mesomorphine is made by altering codeine. Krok is made by improperly altering codeine and leaving behind petrochemicals & acids in addition to mesomorphine
Ah, OK, just a literal letter-for-letter conversion into the Latin alphabet, that happens to yield the same word.
I assume it is called Krokodil because it seems to eat flesh, right? Since people tend to believe only what they see for themselves, maybe there is a way to demonstrate its disastrous effect on a steak at schools and similar institutions
Just saw some photos on Google, now I feel sick.

Essentially, yes. The petrochemicals & acids at the injection site kill & rot all the surrounding tissue, and whatever enters the bloodstream causes damaged wherever it ends up. The injection sites turn into giant open sores that typically get infected and cause other problems such as gangrene and often lead to amputation. There is also internal organ damage from repeated exposure. As they say, the typical (painful) lifespan of a person using Krokodil is about 2 to 3 years
It's going to be especially sad when more of these cases turn up in local hospitals. The people using this drug aren't likely to be the type to watch the evening news or read health bulletins and warnings. By then, it will be too late for them.
