This trial has been going on for about a year. As an American I find it repulsive that someone could be put on trial for saying something that might offend someone. I am very glad that justice prevailed in the end. No word on how much money the defendant had to spend in his defense though. In that regard, the trial still accomplished its intended effect for the government: intimidation to silence others who might speak out in a way that the government doesn't like.
The trial of Geert Wilders has been one of the most under-reported news stories of the past year. His acquital is a MAJOR victory for free speech and a blow to the quiet, slow campaign to appease fundamentalist Islam.
Thank God freedom of speech trumps almost everything else here in the United States, although the imposition of "speech codes" on college campuses comes close to the European/Canadian politically correct restrictions on free speech, lest it "offend" officially sanctioned groups.

We do remember why Europeans are more sensitive to freedom of speech, right?

Most of European politically correct politicians are too corrupt and too dumb to understand that politicians like Wilders are future of Europa.
A little something called WWII and the Holocaust, if I am not mistaken.
Nobody died there because of speech. It was actions that killed people. By all means create laws forbidding those sorts of actions but leave speech alone.
Minorities groups said they would now take the case to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, arguing the ruling meant the Netherlands had failed to protect ethnic minorities from discrimination.
"The acquittal means that the right of minorities to remain free of hate speech has been breached. We are going to claim our rights at the U.N.," said Mohamed Rabbae of the National Council for Moroccans.
Hopefully Wilders' party will be able to gain even more seats in the next election with the publicity from this trial. Hopefully others will be emboldened to speak openly about the government's dangerous immigration policies.

Of course speech doesn't kill people... but I assure you Hitler did not gain support and power through his love of unicorns.

The world is never that black and white. It makes them more sensitive to it, that's all. We can't go out criticizing every country in the world because it doesn't share 100% of American values because guess what? Not every country is America or has the experience and history of America.

In a great victory for decency and sanity, the Court of Amsterdam has acquitted Geert Wilders of all charges.
This is good news and yes, is under-reported. Good for Wilders. Hopefully, he'll continue to kick ass.
Thanks for the update.
