What water shortage? We have all the fresh water we could ever want in Alaska. Nice clean glacial water. In fact, it is so clean that the EPA once threatened Anchorage with a $3 million fine if they did not remove the particulates from the city's drinking water. The only problem was that there are no particulates in Anchorage's drinking water. The city had to dump several tons of fish waste into the water just so it could be removed and be in compliance with the morons at the EPA.
You lower-48ers can stick with your pricey bottled tap-water, we will stick to our free water from glacier fed lakes, rivers, and streams.
north america will be fin but other countries that want want to treat salt water the best way is gen 4 nuclear plants where arc-1000 make 1200KW per core and a 6-8 core systems would solve both water and energy problems I mean we should start replacing or old power plants with modren ones and up date the whole grid and Canada and the US need to start now and we need to re do our roads and other infastructure now rather than later because the old stuff is alomost running at full capcity and rolling blackouts are possible andwhen those old reactors go offline due to 35-40 year service lives without something ready to replace it we are headed for rough times

Nuclear reactors in earthquake prone areas is not a smart idea. As was recently demonstrated in Japan.
I think the cost of building the pipes would be exhorbitant, plus the flooding 'problem' appears to have a political agenda attached.

For starters they aren't paying below market value.
Second, the MAIN reason they are doing buyouts etc. is part of an effort to stem MASSIVE MONETARY LOSSES to the federal flood insurance program caused by repetitive loss properties.
Basically, the retarded FFIP encouraged people to build **** stupidly on floodplanes because the Govt would just bail them out with underpriced insurance.

At some point you'll be the most efficient possible and there will still be too many people on the planet.
The more people you have on the planet the less stable it becomes and the more it fluctuates with disruptions to the norm.
Sort of like having a really low alkalinity with the water in your pool and adding Trichloroisocyanuric acid and wondering why the pH level fluctuates so much and you get green algae after months of adding it, you know?

Tidal power generates electricity, it doesn't move water thru a filter. The whole arguement of too many people is false, but widely used by the super wealthy to try and reduce the poplulation by any means possible.
The US should look more into investing with desalination of sea water. If we can do it safely without affecting marine life and ecosystems, I'm all for it. We could pump the water to dry or desert areas to turn sand into farm land. Ocean waters are rising so maybe using the sea water would slow the rise of sea levels.
the issue is what do you do with all that salt?
but, it should be pointed out that ocean levels have been rising at a very steady pace since the last glaciation. And in the last few years, that rise has stalled...
