I love it. It is a piece written as a defense to the common knowledge and belief that most liberals hate America (which is true). The article is a muted attempt to assert that liberals actually love their country (despite despising the military, promoting communist/socialist causes, encouraging the ACLU and the trial lawyer's association to destroy the fabric of our society, and flooding the nation with a plague of illegal aliens) and are apparently just misguided patriots who appear to be 180 degrees out of phase with what is right and honorable.
I got a good laugh out of the article. I am sure that after the 4th passes, the liberals can get back to flag burning after a brief respite.
I've read some asinine remarks here on C-D...but this has to take the prize for the most asinine.
I've had the great pleasure of watching my dad lecture a Boy Scout or two on the scouts mistreatment of gays as the reason why he will no longer support the Scouts by buying their popcorn (my dad's a 65 year old Eagle Scout and former Naval officer).
I understand where those sentiments come from -- I really do! -- but I stick with them in the hopes that raising my son to be tolerant and inclusive may someday mean he and his peers will affect change in an organization that does much good in the world.

I guess if one is standing on the far left, everything to the right of you is conservative. Every living, breathing being (I guess with the exception of you) thinks that NPR is liberal. Why? Because THEY ARE LIBERAL.
NPR is "liberal" in a classic Enlightenment sense. They are liberal in the same manner as Voltaire or Jefferson.
That is not at all the same as Leftist, but I realize that confuses right wing types who need to see the world as an oversimplified row of neat little pigeonholes.

I always stay home on the 4th... Too many valley rats like to drive around drunk and I'd prefer to live. Plus, fireworks are banned where I live (summer in the country is NOT a good ti
E or place to set off fireworks) and the beaches are too full of the aforementioned valley rats to have any real fun. Me and my friends get to spend all this next weekend cleaning up the beach after all the tourists destroyed it. Apparently, nothing says happy birthday America like driving to where I live and trashing the state beaches!
