LOS ANGELES — A light earthquake rattled the Los Angeles area early Thursday, waking residents and knocking some items off shelves and walls.

The magnitude 4.5 temblor struck just before 1 a.m. about 4 miles northwest of Chatsworth, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage, said spokesman Brian Humphrey, of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It woke me up. It lasted no more than a few seconds. That's what I like about earthquake -- sudden and quick. It's my favorite out of all disasters. Your house shakes and if you are not under a pile of rubbles within a minute you know you are going to be OK. If you die, it's gonna be quick and people will know where to find your corpse. Compared to tornado, hurricane and flooding, earthquake is a gift.

They will point out the clause in the contract that says they don't cover damage due to "sway".

4.5 is NOTHING. "Rattled" by 4.5?

I was in the Loma Prieta quake, and that was fairly mild. When '06 repeats itself...that's a real earthquake.
