That referred to the general difference between American and non-American comics. In my view there is an equally big difference between the movies from both sides of the Atlantic as well, not to mention Asian movies.
Patriotism is one of the differences, but also speed, language, artistic expression, etc.
Most of the movies I watch are American and unless it's a war film or a film based on a real story (tragedy, 9/11, civil rights movement, etc.), you don't get the sense of "Americans are superior!" "AMERICA! F*** YEAH!"... so I really don't get your point. It seems it's coming more from your prejudice of American culture (though I don't particularly fault you, a lot of people are caught up in the same line of thought).

Same here, the majority of movies I watch are Americans, for the simple reason that Hollywood inundates the world with its movies. English is a simple language, thus translators for the subtitles are cheap, etc. Else we might see more Bollywood or Mollywood movies, too.
But it really is a blessing whenever they air a Portuguese movie, they are usually thoughtful and artistic. Same goes for French or Polish movies.
There are good American movies as well, but the percentage is far lower.
