Today I am thinking about the desires by some to shrink the government down so small that they can drown it in the bathtub. Then what? That view seems ignore the role of the government in the Manhattan Project, NASA, National Parks, internet, and the like. Do people really think we would be better off if everything were privatized? Or is there any sense of decent proportion in the private, government, and nonprofit elements of society.
What is the end game? I feel the antigovernment folks are describing a place where Reagan rides a unicorn. The hardcore rightwing slogans that seem to circulate endlessly seem to have no grounding in reality, whatsoever.

The end game, for me at least, is that no debt ceiling is reached and the Leviathan which has become the Federal government comes crashing down around us. I'll take a little creative destruction, to use an economist's term, if the net result is a Federal government that is brought back in line with it's Constitutionally defined role. Barring drastic downsizing in the size and scope of the Federal government, and our associated debt, I don't see much hope, long term, for the viability of the US as a it is today. But that's been the goal of the democrats and Obama from day one.
the tiny spec of gov you mentioned is not worth even responding to. the big picture has been discussed here many times
Have you noticed that there have been at least two threads just like this one started here today? It appears to me that the left has handed down some new orders to their far lefties. So far there has been little real thinking handed down by either of them.
Sorry but there is no big bad scary Axis powers to be afraid of anymore. And also, 9/11 was a false flag operation and so was the underwear bomber. We don't need the military-industrial complex anymore.
Well, I'm one of "those" anti-big government people. And guess what, I'm about as far left of our universe as one could possibly be. It's not always the "Rightists" who take the anti-big government stance.

Nice way to obfuscate the argument with a Straw Man.
First of all, no one is saying get rid of NASA or public parks.
And no one is saying privatize the Department of Education which never should have existed in the first place since if violates the US Constitution.
We want to get rid of crap like $3 Billion for Jello parties and shrimp on treadmills.

The only leftists in our government that I can think of that is against big government would be Sanders and Kucinich, IMO

Honestly, I wouldn't doubt it. Seriously, I've noticed that when issues hit the media there's a whole series of Straw Man threads on City-Data.
The left are control freaks. They ain't happy unless they're controlling every single facet of your life.

Yeah suddenly taking credit for the Manhattan project had me wondering
