really? the top tax rate at the end of the reagan years was 28%. it is now 35%. so tell me again how obama tax rates are lower than reagans? and bush 43 the top rate was 35%, and obama it is also 35%. so again tell me how the tax rate is lower under obama?

i suppose next you are going to tell us that bush 43 raised taxes over what the clinton era tax rates were.

Next you're going to tell us that GE paid 35% in corporate taxes last year. Please do not disappoint...

Have you taken an Econ 101 class? There they will teach you the basics, like "supply and demand". See, if I'm Richy Rich the factory owner right now in 2011, and I'm turning a profit selling widgets on a skeleton crew after laying off half my line workers two years ago when people cut back on buying widgets, and the Republicans hand me yet another tax cut, why on earth would I hire anyone?

I'll answer that for you. Because there is no DEMAND for widgets because we still have high unemployment and a large portion of the population still doesn't have the extra money to buy widgets. So I'm going to pocket the tax cut and hire no one. If I receive no new tax cut, and even if the Bush tax cuts expire, I'm still going to keep my business running with fewer employees than I had 2 years ago. BUT, once unemployment goes down, and people start getting back to work and making money, I'll see DEMAND for widgets going back up. Then I'm forced to HIRE more PEOPLE to make more widgets, and I'll continue to HIRE more PEOPLE as long as demand keeps rising.

Apparently Republicans don't take ECON 101 if they believe that handing tax cuts to rich people will mysteriously create jobs. If they did create jobs, then explain why the Bush tax cuts for the RICH failed us in the past 4 years!

nope, i wont tell you that because i know better. why do you think obama let GE help write the tax code? so he could help pay them back for helping him get elected. there are a number of corporations that didnt pay federal income taxes because of tax breaks for them, and them only. my arguement however was not corporate taxes, but rather the top marginal income tax rate.

Then why did my paycheck go up at the beginning of 2011??? I didn't get a raise, my taxes were lowered a bit.

You did not disappoint. I fully expected your reluctance to deal with facts.

According to the extreme right wing "economic" thinking around here, tax rate is not what you pay (effective rate), but what the statutory rate is. If we were to assume that they use "logic", and logic demands consistency, GE paid 35% in taxes. Or, did the extreme right wing logic suddenly get in touch with the reality?

Why would you call them job creators?

I see a lot of corporations making record profits.

I see a lot of AMERICAN corporations creating jobs for Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Singaporians, Brazilians, Indians and other people in emerging market nations. I don't see these corporations creating jobs for Americans despite record profits and some of the lowest tax rates in history.

At the very least if they aren't make any contribution to helping this country prosper they can pay their damn tax bills.

At least one of two possibilities then:
1- Failed training.
2- Dishonesty.
