State severs foster-care ties with Catholic Charities - chicagotribune.com

Quote:
In a letter sent last week to Catholic Charities in the dioceses of Peoria, Joliet, Springfield and Belleville, the Department of Children and Family Services told all four agencies that the state could not accept its signed contracts for the 2012 fiscal year because “your agency has made it clear that it does not intend to comply with the Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act.”
Why? Because Catholics won't give children to homosexual couples.

"Illinois Religious Freedom Protection and Civil Union Act.”?

Kind of an ironic name for the law, isn't it?

When I was 15 I would rather have been left in an orphanage.

Catholic Charities is responsible for placing thousands of children in loving homes. I know several couples who have adopted through them.

But couldn't they have equally loving homes with Doug and Bruce?

Actually, that's kind of unfortunate. Catholic Charities is not a bad organization.

Just a shame they don't want to obey the law.

I think the left would prefer orphanages modeled after those found in Romania during dictator Nicolae Ceausescu's regime.

Why is the government contracting a church to provide this public service in the first place?

Absolutely, they could. But if an agency has a good record of placing children in good homes (which I'm assuming Catholic Charities does--or else IL wouldn't have worked with them this long) then I see no reason to sever the contract and take up an additional contract with an agency that will also give to gay couples. I'm sure Catholic Charities wasn't the only agency they worked through.

Not anti-gay, just my two cents.

I'm a Leftist and I'm anti-statist. Not all of us on the Left like Communists.

Because the government wants their contractors to meet its terms.
