a few things you are missing in your analogy
The ship has no power. It must be pulled by numerous smaller boats owned by private citizens. This refers to the fact the government can not operate without tax paying citizens.
Obama, while the hole is in the ship, is piling more people on the ship from the private smaller boats and the added weight will sink the ship at a faster rate. And there are less boats pulling the ship. This is ObamaCare. This is 99 weeks of unemployment.
He is also piling more people on that are not the ship or the private boats. Let's say they are on their own life rafts, and Obama allows them on the ship. This is illegal immigration and amnesty. The added weight means more private boats will be needed to pull the ship.
Solution 1 is to lighten the boat by removing people from the ship and getting them back on the smaller private boats so the ship can be pulled. This is a smaller government with a smaller leaner workforce, and a larger private sector and a larger tax base.
Solution 2 is to repair the hole. The hole is represented by many things. An unfair scale of justice - especially regarding taxes, federal regulations, and ethical behavior in the government. A rupture in the desire to put the country first. Money flowing to other countries through various "charities" and businesses that relocate.
Obama's solutions are wrong and ultimately lead to more disaster than recovery.

No, the ship was not sinking when W was in charge. When W was in charge, he was heading the ship into an iceberg. Obama said he will steers the ship away from the iceberg so the people on-board can be saved. However, when he was hired, instead of steering the ship around, he steps on the acceleration toward the iceberg.

I blame the passengers for hiring a "captain" that had never been on a ship before and was only qualified to peel potatos in the galley or polish the anchor.
