I agree that labels (these days) are meaningless smoke screens, hiding a sinister co-oping of our two party system.

-Johnson gave us civil rights and welfare

-Nixon took us off the gold standard (to screw the French who were heavilly invested in dollars, mostly).

-Carter gave us a demolished defense, weakened military, and placed horrible regulatory pressures on business causing a recession (sound familiar).

-Reagan gave us trickle down. The Democrats say he couldn;t be a Republican today. That he would be a Democrat (they wish). Simply rewritting history when it doesn't fit the agenda.

-Bush Seniors' 5.8% unemployment (that got him bounced out of office) should be considered the good ole' days. "No new taxes" screwed him.

-Clinton, spent much of his first term pushing the same liberal agenda we're seeing now, but found it was too much too fast and moved to the center. His Presidency was salvaged by that, and the Internet boom which created billions in revenue and millions of jobs.

-GWB came in, we got bombed and that laid the foundation for moving the country towards totalitarian-like control (RINO) and used it to finish his fathers war on Suddam (thanks GW)...

and now we have

Obama- The President of more wars that aren't wars, the ultimate flip-flopper of all time, the never waste a good emergency, the President of peace (uh oh) and change (oh man is it changing), of broken promises on the positive side- "I'll close Gitmo, there will be no lobbyists, mine will be the most transparent in history", who warned us that- "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket", the President of Congressional circumvention and arming of regulatory agencies, crusader against all things Capitolism while shoveling dollars into the vaults of the uber-rich, banks and unions. The man who truly knows how to repay friends and punish enemies. The coveter of all things green and despiser of all things oil. Man is he smooth walking down stairs and making speaches!!

All but one increased governmental control over peoples lives. Progressives are socialists, Democrats and Republicans call themselves progressives, making many Democrats and quite a few Republicans Socialists.

History always repeats itself when people ignore it. Welcome to Rome.
Your view of history is odd and twisted.

Your idea of good old days is scary at best. HW Bush years saw an extremely slow job growth, with only 2.3 million jobs added over four years while civilian labor forced increased by over 5 million.

The Roosevelt "new deal" gave us the TVA. The interstate road system was started by Eisenhower and modelled after the German Autobahn that his troops used as an expressway straight through Germany during WW2.

That would be your limited idea of the much larger political world in reality.
