This was already posted in the local forum for this story, but I thought it highlighted some more widespread social issues.

Quote:
"Beginning July 16, 2011 McDain's Restaurant will no longer admit children under 6 years of age," it said. "We feel that McDain's is not a place for young children. Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times they have disturbed other customers."

On its website, McDain's advertises itself as a place for "cocktails and fine casual dining" and calls its atmosphere "upscale, quiet and casual".

Children under six banned from Pennsylvania restaurant

As the ACLU has already released a statement that this does not violate any anti-discrimination legislation, this is not a legal issue, however I am wondering what people's thoughts are.

Plenty of other places to go with kids and if they really want to dine there..then get a babysitter.

Good for them. Businesses should be able to define their own customer base.

Non-issue IMO. Plenty of places like clubs are 18+.

I agree with others. I have a 2 year old and I will not take him to some resturaunts. People with children should not make life more difficult for people without children.

THANK YOU!!! No more feral children running amok because their "parents" refuse to be .... parents.

Agreed. If the resturant does not have a playland or a clown, then most kids don't belong. The solution is to eliminate the kids menu. Parents will get the hint when they have to pay for a full price meal for a kid that will pick through 3% of it.

It is not a government run restaurant.

It is a privately owned business, that can do as they wish, to make a living, or show a loss.

This is awesome! I'd like to see all restaurants get rules like this, and I think they should ban kids under 13, not just under 6.

Works for me. Our favorite desert retreat has a strict and enforced no kids, no pets, no cell-phones-outside-your-room policy. It's quiet. It's heavenly.
