This was already posted in the local forum for this story, but I thought it highlighted some more widespread social issues.
Quote:
"Beginning July 16, 2011 McDain's Restaurant will no longer admit children under 6 years of age," it said. "We feel that McDain's is not a place for young children. Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times they have disturbed other customers."
On its website, McDain's advertises itself as a place for "cocktails and fine casual dining" and calls its atmosphere "upscale, quiet and casual".
As the ACLU has already released a statement that this does not violate any anti-discrimination legislation, this is not a legal issue, however I am wondering what people's thoughts are.

Good for them. Businesses should be able to define their own customer base.
I agree with others. I have a 2 year old and I will not take him to some resturaunts. People with children should not make life more difficult for people without children.

Agreed. If the resturant does not have a playland or a clown, then most kids don't belong. The solution is to eliminate the kids menu. Parents will get the hint when they have to pay for a full price meal for a kid that will pick through 3% of it.

It is not a government run restaurant.
It is a privately owned business, that can do as they wish, to make a living, or show a loss.
Works for me. Our favorite desert retreat has a strict and enforced no kids, no pets, no cell-phones-outside-your-room policy. It's quiet. It's heavenly.
