Can Fla. doctors ask patients about gun ownership?

Quote:
“The state is holding a sword above their heads,” said attorney Douglas Hallward-Driemeier, a Washington, D.C., attorney representing the doctors’ groups. “This is constitutionally impermissible.”But lawyers for the state of Florida countered that the new law does not prohibit physicians from talking with patients about gun ownership, as long as the discussion is “relevant” to an actual concern over safety. There will have to be a "test case". Unless someone has a gunshot wound or high lead levels there is no reason for a physician to ask about firearms usage or ownership, period.

Physicians spend less than 7 minutes at average with their patients. Are we to believe that they are going to give them a "safety" seminar on every single hazard in one's home during that time instead of addressing the medical concern which should be the topic of the patient's visit? Are they going to go out to the parking lot and do a safety seminar in regard to the vehicle in which the patient arrived at the medical office?

Liberalism driven agenda where physicians practice not medicine but are spies for the nanny state.

Yeah, my kid's pediatrician asked about gun ownership. I asked him why he was asking.... He replied with statistics about accidental gun deaths. When I pressed the issue a little further, he told me that the AMA recommends that if firearms are kept in a home that they be kept in a safe away from children's access.......

Still, unless he's treating a gunshot wound, it's none of his business.

I'm all for limiting the free speech rights of doctors.

But I bet you are against those pre-abortion sonograms aren't you?

In the office physicians should stick to medicine should they not?

They have the right to ask and you have the right to find another doctor. Simple as that.

I would ask why he wanted to know and respond appropriately.

FWIW - I am opposed to any pre abortion requirements that increases the stress on the woman.

So don't tell them or lie as in, "Yes, doctor, I walked every day for one hour since I last saw you." What do doctors know about gun safety, anyway, unless they own guns, too.
