Is it just Spanish-speaking that riles some people so? Haven't seen anyone feel that America is threatened by the existence of things similar to the NMABE, like the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana.
This country's heritage isn't exclusively about English speakers.
they threaten Spanish on anyone who wants to Speak another language?

A lot of times people who rail about English as this country's exclusive language demonstrate a profound inability to comprehend the language they defend.
To be an American (U.S citizen you must speak English). Its a requirement.
How so? Seems to me if it was perceived as an actual threat that the government would have declared a national language, and insisted that everyone speak it, long ago.
A fun fact for today: there are some American Indians right here in New Mexico, who are U.S. citizens who do not speak English.
It's really not a requirement for citizenship.

It sure seems that way. I've yet to see anyone object to the French Quarter being named thusly or to all of the German signage in Fredericksburg, TX or the Italian prevalent in Little Italy in NYC, particuarly during feast days or Korean in Palisades Park, NJ.
How anyone could be so closed-minded as to think that no language other than English has contributed to our heritage is, I'm starting to think, bordering on some sort of disorder.

Bilingualism - a
good thing for a child's
future marketability in the work force.
You have a head start, if you start with your own ancestry.
Fifty percent of Latinos in America speak
only English at home and in public.
Only 17 percent speak only Spanish at home.
Many previous generations
wish they could have picked up French/Italian/
German/etc. more readily at home so that
they wouldn't have to pay for those Rosetta courses

Yes, it does. And the heritage, to a very large extent, of New Mexico is Spanish whether or not you approve or regard that as 'American.'
Americas Heritage dates to the 13 colonies & America Revolution.
Refusing to assimilate to the countries language at birth is not heritage. Its more picking a fight to denounce English.
