Morning all!

I came across this article from Michigan this morning. It's about a bill banning employers from discriminating against those who are already unemployed. Apparently New Jersey has a similar bill, and I wanted to get your thoughts on it.

Great.

Making it illegal to not hire people who don't want to work is helpful in what way?

I think it's aimed at people who are searching for work. No company should have to hire someone who doesn't want to work.

I don't know what to think about it myself. I sympathise with the idea behind it, but I don't know how such a law can be enforced.

It is impossible to prove that someone wasn't hired because they are unemployed. Also why does government feel the need to add burdens to businesses at this time. They are simply adding another reason to delay the decision to hire more employees. They are truly stupid.

It can't be enforced. An employer can give any reason for not hiring.
It's a "feel good" bill..nothing more.

Or, worse....

Tie the businesses up with lawsuits.

Then there will be fewer jobs.

Are they going to make it illegal to hire someone who wants to change employers if there is an unemployed person available for the same job?
