Because there IS money to make those payments and it would be a political call to not send the checks. That was already uncovered in Congress via direct questioning of the SS guy who tap danced around the direct question.

What was the unemployment rate when Bush left office Jan. 2009? What has the GOP done to create jobs since they took over the House?

What happened in 2009 and 2010 ?

I would say the day after Harry Reid walks out from not having enough union votes in his state.
LOL, Ryan's plan was a two page summary, and even the GOP vomited it out after thinking about what it was really all about. So far I like the first plan which came from the bi-partisan board.

Of course we need more revenue, but we need to get this revenue by increasing the number of taxpayers, not by choking the golden goose.

Every out of work person is collecting unemployment, or Food Stamps, or Medicaid, or some other money from various government social safety nets. For every person who gets a jobs, the government no longer pays for their safety net expenses, which becomes a cut in government spending, and they also start paying income taxes which is an increase revenue. Its a win-win, where as raising taxes is a small win for government, and a a larger loss at the same time.

If you must know, I never heard Obama talk about 80%. When I said 80%, it was a matter of simple math: only 20% think 'cuts only' is a good idea, so then 80% support some kind of mix of cuts and other measures.

It is unimaginable that one president can take a solid economy with udget surplus in 2000 and turn it into a complete disaster in only 8 years. It is hard to imagine, but it did happen.

Default New CBS poll: GOP approval for debt crisis at 21%

New CBS poll shows just 21% of people surveyed approve of the way the GOP is handling the debt ceiling "crisis", vs 43% for Obama.

We'll see a week of posturing by the GOP, including a meaningless House vote on a so-called "cut, cap, and balance" bill.

Then, Congress will either vote to raise the debt ceiling (that is, to pay our bills), or, in an act of unmitigated political cowardace, attempt to abdicate that constitutional responsibility to Obama (Dont say they won't do it- McConnel already proposed to do just that).

Poll: 71% shun GOP handling of debt crisis - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

The one 0bama ignored?

Ryan's plan is a start in the right direction, where is the Reid or 0bama plan? There is none. Its been over 800 days since Reid presented a budget plan, so why is he even at these meetings, being as he has nothing at all to offer. BTW, Ryan's plan got 40 votes in the senate, 0bama's got zero votes from anyone. did 0bama "vomit" his plan out? And since not one person voted for his plan, why do we care what he thinks anyway, his ideas were completely rejected by both parties?
