The government chose to take people's money on the promise of paying it back. They don't get to decide now that they want to keep it. If they realize now the ponzi scheme isn't working, then stop the scheme and finish paying your obligations.
I'm in my 30s and self employed. I got the pleasure of paying 12.4% of my income to SS last year, and I have no doubt I will never see that money back.
Like the rest of us working stiffs. Who cares if you're self-employed or not? Who cares how old you are? You didn't pay in with the promise that you'd get your money back. You paid in so that your grandparents and parents would have a financial security net when they retired. You hoped that the people following you into the job market would pay in so that one day you would have that financial security net. The demographics of the baby boom mean that the financial security net as originally designed won't be there for you or me, but in all likelihood, it will be re-designed in some way for us. It probably won't be sufficient, we probably will complain about how insufficient it is.

This despicable act by 0bama should be a wake-up call for all Americans, when government controls your life, as they do with SS checks and Medicare, they have the power toact like tyrants, and hold a figurative gun to your head
Many are taking note thanks to Obama's threat, but it's far too late. The government has already taken workers' hard-earned money for DECADES.

Actually no, I hope the people following me do not have to pay in. Social Security is not viable in its current state. The government needs to completely reform it. I'm not counting on the government to provide my financial security net, not now and not when I retire. We ensure our own financial security by spending responsibly and saving well.
And being self-employed means I pay more than non-self employed people for SS. For 2011, employees pay 4.2% into Social Security, and employers pay 6.2%. Self employed people have to pay both sides, so in 2011, I'm paying 10.4% of my income into SS.
I won't say that at all. Since the Congress has admitted that they owe over $3 trillion to the SS fund I would say that the original plan worked very well or would have if politicians could stand to see money sitting around unspent.
“Work to keep the government open, unless it requires breaking your word to the American people and giving up your principles,” he says. “Becoming one more promise-breaking, Washington-dominated, sellout group is a much worse fate — politically and ethically — than having the government close for a few days.”

You missed that one. Both employers and the employed pay the same amount and it has been 6% plus for years and years.
That comment was an attempt by Obama to blackmail the nation.
Just imagine how easy for them it will be to blackmail us when they have full control over our healthcare system.
They'll be able to get anything by threatening to sop funding certain healthcare programs.
Sure sounds like it, doesn't it. It is really time to stop the madness and tyranny of big government before it is too late.
