Not buying from china is a pain in the neck. However, I don't and haven't for years. Of course it means doing without. I went two years without tennis shoes until I got busy and found some that weren't made there. Right now I'm looking for some sandles to replace my 20 year old flip-flops and you wouldn't believe what I'm using for a car coffee cup.
For the sandals, try manufacturers such as Dansko, Naot, etc. Not USA companies, but at leat they're not from China. They are also a bit pricey, but they last forever. There are lots more companies like these if you go to the Zappo's website.

Tervis tumblers has plenty of car coffee cups. They are all made in the USA.
Chaco sells custom-made sandals in Colorado. Some Rainbow sandals are made in California.
Are they producing anything BPA free yet? That is what has stopped me from buying Tervis products in the past.
I bought one for my sister's bridal shower last month, and it had a BPA free sticker on it. According to their website, they have been manufacturing BPA free since Jan. 2011. Frequently Asked Questions, FAQs, Tervis Tumbler (http://www.tervis.com/FAQ#Where_Are_Tervis_Tumblers_Made - broken link)
But I'll give the Brits a nod with their Marshall amps also.
Going back to my post. I like the Fender strat with floyd rose model which I bought two American made ones around 2002 or 2003 from musiciansfriend for $700 each brand new. The Mexican model was going for $350 or $375 at the time. Now these days a Mexican made one is $700 new. While the American model is now discontinued it sells used for as much as it was new back then and often sells for double it was worth, I see it on ebay for $800 to $1300 depending.
Same with Gibson Les Paul, a new one is $2000 to $3000 depending while a used one still fetches close to a new one.
The Mexican made Fender line and The Gibson Epiphone line made in China sell for half used while the American made holds its value and often increases in value.
Shows although yet another item that has doubled in price in the last ten years while most peoples income has not. I doubt the guys building the American guitars are making twice what they did ten years ago. The Mexican workers probably aren't either. So if wages are close to what they were ten years ago but the product is now twice as much where is that extra money going?
I am wearing the first and last New Balance shoes I will ever buy. They started ripping out on one and then the other. Nope I don't ever want any more of them. I prefer Adidas for comfort and long wearing.
Not all new balance are made in the U.S. The more expensive ones are made here...for the most part.
Cannondale bicycles are made here. Very good bikes.
