I would still disagree. The ability is there, just because it hasn't been triggered doesn't imply that it isn't. I see it as no different than breathing. The machinism is there, but not engaged until it is required at birth.

As far as brain evolution goes, we are not that far removed from a time when clans fought each other for survival and "stranger" meant "danger". There is probably some hard wiring in our brains left over from that time.
