So don't go blaming this on the Republicans. The Dem Congress of 2008 were scared sh*tless by the Fed and Treasury into passing that blank check of a bill.

Some people argue that the poor "need" these little luxuries b/c they afford them an escape from their dreary reality, but I disagree. While I think the poor certainly need and deserve guidance and help, maybe if people were in a situation that just downright sucked, they'd be more likely to try to get out of it.
A lot of people are poor because they don't manage their money well, either they were never taught or they don't have the discipline. I wonder if more community organizations would offer financial literacy classes, if that would improve te situation some.

Government phone subsidies generally consist of those nickel-and-dime federal taxes on landlines, these tax subsidies are extended to those who have only a cell phone and no landline.

Never heard of subsidized cable TV, where is that?
You're making too much sense for a reactionary....

I posted the CNN article that cites Obama proudly proclaiming that he negotiated the terms of the bankster bailout during daily phone calls to Paulson for 2 weeks.

Obama claimed responsibility for the bankster bailout.

Here's Obama in his own words:
Quote:
"For two weeks, I was on the phone every day with [Treasury] Secretary Paulson and the congressional leaders making sure that the principles that have ultimately been adopted were incorporated in the bill," Obama said.
Candidates say they'll probably support bailout bill - CNN

People need to take money other people earned to feed themselves?!? And they take that money by threatening those who earned it with imprisonment if they don't hand it over?!?

What kind of fascist society is that?

An xbox isn't a necessity, but A.C. is in some areas.

You could get by without it in South Florida here, but it would be no picnic for sure. Now where I used to live, a place that averages something like 22 days of 100+ degree heat per year, having or not having A.C. is life or death. Poorer elderly people and small children can't handle that stuff.

I'm not sure how people handled it 75 years ago in some places but then again places like Phoenix and Vegas were sleepy desert villages in those days.
