Carter was a center-right Dem who was a born-again Christian. Clinton was a center-right Dem who performed like a Republican (our best "Republican" president since Eisenhower, IMO).

Both Bush's were moderates. Reagan was probably the most conservative recent president, but even he would feel a little ill-at-ease in today's fruit cake GOP- at least Reagan knew enough to raise taxes and retreat from war zones when necessary.

I consider Obama a straight down the middle centrist/pragmatist. LOL at everyone who thinks he's a socialist- if only!
Jimmy Carter was center-right? Congratulations, you are the first person in history to claim that, I guess you can be proud of that.

As for the truth, carter was very far left...

I go back and forth. They are both ridiculous IMO. While I think the far left is more idiotic, the far right is more frightening.

I'm white, my wife is Mexican-American. Which side is more likely to give us crap?

That's the side that bothers me.

It's a toss up for me. One side is too concerned with things like disciplining gays and believes in deregulating everything China style. The other side is too soft on crime and immigration

And I read the other day from a popular pollster that 90% of people that call themselves "centrists" are actually either reliably left or reliably right voters.

In other words they are just B.S.ing that the are "centrists".

I'd imagine the answers to this thread will fall along their true political natures as well.

Moderates have to be the most misunderstood people in the political world. I've been called a fence sitter and milquetoast my entire life, and all for the apparent crime of being insightful enough to recognize the excesses and stupidity of either party. Maybe one day I'll get alzheimer's and lose enough brain cells to become a wingnut.

While I don't like the religious wackos on the Far Right, they've never ruined my day, called me a racist or the root of all evil.

When I was younger, the right did annoy be a bit by trying to get some CDs banned but since I've been an adult it's been all leftists who have pissed me off. I've been stuck for hours thanks to whiny leftists blocking traffic with their fur protests and their illegal green bicycling protests. Also, if you think those on the right are preachy (and they are) just try talking to a liberal.

wow, it's hard to say. I dislike them both.

On THIS forum, the far right irritates me more. However, that may be because this forum is crawling with boomers from flyover states who take the GOP party line, hook line and sinker. They are not your "thinking man's conservative;" they eat what they are fed, they do what they are told.

There are not very many "far left" posters, and those that are, are often talking about issues that don't matter to me. But occasionally I will go to some website where I totally don't belong, like the Huffington Post or Jezebel, and read the comments, just to remind myself that the far left is just as crazy and irrational. Those people are so righteously indignant it's hard to stand.

That is certainly true. Most people think their views are moderate. There is no such thing as a centrist.

I am so damn far left that I am a born again Adam Smith Capitalist with no tolerance for monopoly of any kind. I oppose leftists that would regiment us all into a commune and Rightists that would have One Big Business owning everything.
