Are you serious? We're not talking about rape here, or murder. These are childish pranks! You want them to go through a potential 60 years of life being branded on the forehead with the Scarlett letter, so to speak?
Of course. All the sex offender laws do nothing to protect us from sex offenders (itself mostly media hype) and too many innocent people are on the registry, and it's mostly teenagers and young adults who are more likely to be wrongly convicted or accused that end up on there.
Look at a few states trying to pass a Caylee's Law as well. More emotional knee-jerking that results in a really stupid law that has the potential to lock up innocent wrongdoing
No, unfortunately when people think sex offender, they automatically picture a baby boomer white male with thick 80s era glasses and grungy hair raping a 5 year old girl when in reality, sex offenders even encompass an 18 year old male dating his 17 year old girlfriend in states where the age of consent is 18. Or take the case of one state, Nebraska, where public urination is a sex offense
Or, in some places it's ok for the 18 yr old to have sex with his 17 yr old girlfriend BUT if she sends him naked picture of herself, he now possesses child porn
I agree. If you want to punish someone for commiting a crime to fine them or jail them and once that debt is paid that should be that. Amazing we worry about the "sex offender" down the street but forget about the murder next door, logic at it best eh.

I love the way you are making light of what the victims had to endure in this case. I bet that if someone held you down and placed their bare buttocks on your face you would be singing a different tune.
I can definitely understand why someone would not a bare ass in their face. I have great difficulty arguing for ass in the face.
However, I don't think branding the kids as sex offenders either teaches them a lesson (other than the government is stupid) and I think the punishment is worse than the crime.
I wasn't. While I may have had less-than-stellar moments, I never targeted anyone for sexual assault. From your statement, may I assume that you did? Were you ever on the receiving end and if so, did you enjoy it?
This was not a sexual assault. This fits into the same category as farting in someones face and a bunch of other teenage boy pranks such as;
- holding down a boy and farting in his face.
- yanking his pants down in public
- pouring honey down his pants
- three guys "treeing" another one
- paddling (remember "Dazed and Confused"?)
etc, etc
If you were on the receiving end, you certainly didn't enjoy it. But sooner or later almost every boy in school had something done to him.
If you missed these pranks in junior high school, you must have led a very protected life.
do the crime do the time, when they are of age of majority, change their name and disappear. easier than alot of people think. even in the age of computers.

Forcing one's anal regions into the face of another, while at the same time touching their lips with one's penis is not a sexual act? So you would not mind if someone did that to you, your wife, or your daughter, right? It would all be laughed off as 'just good fun'?
