VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 22 (UPI) -- Two U.S. tourists, one from Texas, the other from California, were held in a Canadian jail for five days on charges of smuggling firearms, officials said.

Texan Danny Cross and Californian Hugh Barr, Cross's brother-in-law, each paid a $50,000 bond to gain their freedom after they were arrested at a Washington state border crossing about 40 miles southeast of Vancouver, the Vancouver Sun reported.

I guess they'll declare their weapons the next time they're asked when entering the country.

Yeah, they should have declared their firearms. Canadian border security is no joke.

Idiots, they are lucky they are not still in jail. I'm surprised there is anyone left in the USA who doesn't know that it is illegal to take handguns into Canada. Like I said, idiots!

It's Canada. They will never be allowed back.

I'm sorry these retired men went through this, but when you leave America, you leave American rights behind and assume the rights, and responsibilities, of the country you're visiting. You can't go to another country and cry, "but that's legal in America, and I'm an American!"

Nor should they after blatantly breaking the law. Its been a while since I've been to Canada but I'm pretty certain that they still have those large signs at manned border crossings with a list of what is strickly prohibited. I find it difficult to believe that two men who were nearly senior citizens traveling with that many firearms in an RV really didn't know they were breaking the law.

When stupid doesn't physically hurt it is usually expensive.
