Agreed, I'm in Phoenix and everyone I've discussed this ridiculous taking offense of the word is in agreement, what a waste of time and energy. Someone has a really easy life if they can take the time to generate outrage over soldiers returning from the Middle East to hear the word haboob.

OMG, I just read that article. Like it's newsworthy that a couple of nut cases objected to a word in AZ? Half or more of this state is absolutely bat you know what crazy.

I'll admit, it was the eeriest type of dust storm I've seen, making me wonder if it was dust or just some kind of fog, but I'm certainly not angry. Yikes, this state is so wacked. AZ does NOT need anymore bad press than it already has.

Gee, 10 years ago people speaking Arabic who practice a religion that promotes mysogony and mutilation destroyed a major landmark in an international city murdering thousands of our citizens on our soil and we are a little sensitive about embracing their language and culture.

Wow, what xenophobic paranoids we are.

You can go to the AZ section on C-D to read more about what the locals think. You can see the videos of it there as well.

Why did the NY Times consider this newsworthy or was this an attempt to make Arizona look completely bonkers? This really seems an odd article.

Whether the Bush Administration facilitated this or not does not exonerate the Bastards who did it. It just makes them accomplices.

Haboobs or just plain boobs?

I have no doubt that the complainers can do without foreign invaders like algebra or algorithms, but whatever will they do without alcohol?
