Interesting article in Forbes:

"Like it or not, Obama is not the new FDR, but the new Gorbachev: a man forced to preside over the demise of a political system he desperately wants to save."

Why The Democratic Party Is Doomed - Richard Miniter - National Security - Forbes

Discuss.

No Obama is not a remarkable leader in any regard. He is an imbecile who has betrayed the US dream and has embraced the failed tenents of socialism, which has resulted in increased unemployment, increased debt, and disparity among the population.

He is Jimmy Carter incarnate. As with Carter, Obama has convinced the US population that there is no hope, we are doomed, and destined to failure. Like Reagan, there wil be a competent Republican executive in 2012 that will deliver the nation from the depths of disparity. The only people that will oppose him will be liberals. Of course, liberals championed Obama, so we know that they are always wrong.

When the author said that all the long term trends are bad for Democrats was when I stopped reading. He must have missed the fact that 1. Minority groups are an essential part of the Democratic coalition if not the keystone and 2. The US will be majority minority by 2050 and the Republicans as they are now cannot win with an electorate like that.

Maybe you better rewrite that post to allow us to know that you really do support people from Central America coming north. You said the US would be a majority minority and that makes next to no sense.

I am 100% against illegal immigration, but the fact is even if illegal immigration stopped tomorrow the % of African Americans, Asians, and Hispanics would continue to rise as the percentage of whites fell based on birthrates and legal immigration alone.

I will say it again. Very few Republicans can win anything close a break even margin with any minority group and as a result Republicans will have an increasingly difficult time winning elections unless they can change something to attract non-white voters. As to the term majority-minority perhaps a google search would explain it.

""Obama is not the new FDR, but the new Gorbachev..."

But the new Gorbachev is not the new Houdini, and the new Houdini is not the new Soupy Sales, Hannity, Beck, and Limbaugh are not the new Three Stooges, so how can the new Obama be new?

But as the decades go by, and members of minority groups attain status and wealth by dint of hard work and purposeful effort, they will be less attracted to the idea of forking over hard-earned money so bureaucrats can decide whom to give it to. So the Democrat tendency will be watered down over time, inevitably, as immigrants and minorities work to achieve their own idea of the American Dream.

On the other hand, deadbeats of any race will always tend Democratic, as always.

Obama very well could be the last President of this country under the Constitution. I have a feeling Aug 2nd may be the beginning of the end for America. If a debt deal isn't reached, I expect to see a complete and total collapse of society at every level within our nation.

I wish that somehow we could have another Reagan to bring this country out of the depths of despair but I don't see it happening. America today is very different than it was in 1980. I think this country really is too far gone to be saved. The best we can hope for is a soft landing, which with the current debt debacle is looking less and less likely.

First of all, if illegal immigration were stopped period, whites won't become a minority until all of us on this board are either six feet under or in in the final years of our lives. Second, even if minorities become the majority in 2050, what makes you think there won't be any minorities in the GOP? You are assuming that the GOP will still be an almost all-white party 30 years from now. That doesn't make political sense. Take Miami for example. That place is majority Hispanic and most of the people running for office are not people like Meyer, Smith, or Miller it's people like Martínez, heck Rubio, etc. Or take New Mexico, a state whose population is either almost all Hispanic or is Hispanic. Governor is Susana Martínez, a Republican

I disagree in many areas of the country the Asian community has attained a lot of wealth and prestige and Asians in these areas are still overwhelmingly Democratic. Case in point Hawaii with its substantial Asian population. It is one of the wealthiest, most Democratic states in the country. On the other hand some of the poorest, high unemployment majority white areas in the south are still hugely predominently Republican.
