That is really the only conclusion as he claimed the market would take a dive come Monday.....I'm sure he's hoping it will, resulting in Boehner giving in to his tax hikes and less spending cuts.
This is a first people - the POTUS trying to create a panic in the financial markets just to get his way.
Perhaps for the first time in American history, this president is literally using this press conference to create a financial panic over the weekend about the opening of the markets on Monday. He is warning of disaster on Monday. Clearly, he wants to use this as leverage to frighten the GOP into passing the plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, which will push the debt ceiling problem into 2013, but it’s still an entirely new and astonishingly reckless gambit.
It's all about obama and his re-election bid. He could care less about the debt, as he's proven by increasing it more than all other presidents combined.
Gee, I was thinking the same thing about this thread. But I'll add another word to it: Pointless.
No matter what Obama does, the Obama-haters will find a way to blame him and make him out to be the most evil, corrupt politician in American history. It's rubbish.

I guess it would be better he take Bush's approach: ignore reports like "bin Laden Determined to Strike within the United States"? We all know how that turned out. If Bush had made this report public or made it an issue, would you claim he was trying to make you panic?
The blame for this debacle is clearly everyone in politics, not just Obama. The political theater has ramped up a bit, but there's a lot at stake. You already have a party determined to make him look bad and members of that party who have expressed the intention of forcing Obama to fail. That party's members are acting like children sitting with their arms crossed and their faces in a grimace. Now, we have financial disaster looming. Better the President do whatever it takes than sit on his hands and spend vacations on a ranch.
But look who am I arguing with. You're already convinced. Obama can do no right.

Obama has lost most of his economic team, and I suspect the White House is in a panic trying to figure out what to do to jump-start the economy before the election. IMO this president is incapable of seeing or admitting his policies are a failure, so instead we'll hear a lot of Bush-bashing, which is on a definite uptick in C-D, and instead of trying to implement any policies he'll just politicize the debt problem and blame the GOP for his failures.
OK, Sanrene, I just read the whole transcript of the press conference. I don't see Obama fomenting panic, but it was an amazingly cynical performance after an amazingly cynical series of events.
Obama spoke favorably of the Gang of Six plan, which tricked Boehner into negotiations. (The plan, drawing on the work of the Bowles-Simpson report, recommended tax reform to eliminate special treatment and deductions and lower the tax rates, personal and corporate, to about the levels of Reagan's 1986 tax act.
Then he popped up with this populist, counter-productive class warfare crap again. The corporate jet thing is the worst ploy in a long time. Of course Boehner walked.
It is despicable, Obama's "leadership."
