Let the idiots in the Deep South go and wreck their economy, re-institute slavery or something like it, and continue on to the path of radical Christian theocracy. Who needs them? The rest of the country can very easily take care of itself and actually save money because those Deep South states actually consume more money through welfare and entitlement programs than they take in. The South tried to secede and the North wouldn't let it. Why should you get to secede NOW that you realize WE should have been allowed to go our own separate way; that this continent would have been better-served split in two????
Oh, and it's Illinois, NY and California (the high-population states) that consume the welfare $$$$, get a clue. And when referring to welfare in the South, make sure you get your facts straight: Blacks have a higher percentage in the South. So basically you pi.ss on Blacks in your broad-brush analysis, by being angry that they are getting some.

The trouble 161 years later is that Texas is even less motivated to gain it's own independence .. you know .. in that, the more barking the dog does, the less likely he is to bite ..

The folks with jobs, non-government jobs, who in live in the North, don't back these floozies who want free rides for everyone and anyone (mostly themselves).
The North is overrun with folks who'd rather live in a 100 sq/ft apartment in NYC (Boston, Philly, Hollyweird, etc. ) and call themselves "worldly" b/c some dude from Turkey delivers their mail than deal with reality.
Common sense escapes the North (and I live in the North). They're happier proving how "smart" they are compared to the South, than fixing anything.

If the North actually cut out military spending, agricultural subsidies (including the gasohol program), NASA science and cheap electricity for air conditioning, the South, and Texas, would have to go back to growing cotton or hemp just to survive.
Now that would be an interesting experiment. Now to get some skinflint Yankee elected President along with a rational Congress.
No, but bring down a trunkload of that Canadian weed and you would be golden.
Or just some seed. It's indigenous in my state but I hear the Canadian stuff is so much nicer.
