Traitors to whom, traitors to what? Governments earn allegiances, they don't just automatically demand them, if they are legitimate. This regime the democratic party has saddled us with is fast approaching illegitmacy in my humble opinion.
Who do you define as "South" and who do you define as "North"... are you suggesting we take all of California or do you want to split it in north and south halves? Are you taking the international military bases and our soldiers as well as the foreign consulates as well? What about people that live abroad? How about people that are stranded in the middle? After the criticism of Rick Perry in Texas talking about secession, it sounds as though it's the northerners who are actually pushing for their secession.

A) no one in the south wants any part of california.
B) california is in the process of being acquired by mexico anyway.
As for the rest of the country you let them decide by state referendem. If someone finds themselves in the wrong place, they can "vote" with their feet and move to the "nation" that best meets their needs. The fact of the matter is it's already happening now. This country "seems" to be separating at the seams.
Let the idiots in the Deep South go and wreck their economy, re-institute slavery or something like it, and continue on to the path of radical Christian theocracy. Who needs them? The rest of the country can very easily take care of itself and actually save money because those Deep South states actually consume more money through welfare and entitlement programs than they take in. And yet they block and obstruct and whine and complain about how a Democracy works. Cry me a river. Go suck the baby bottle and leave the rest of us alone.
new york SPENDS more per capita on WELFARE than almost anyother state, 'blue' states like NY have more wefare reciepiants than 10 of those 'red' states combined

if i remember correctly, it was the north that refused to allow the south to form its own nation, actually choosing war over secession.
