Well when the average sentence served in California is 24 months and the vast majority are in jail as a result of drug charges, getting folks back into the mainstream MIGHT be a nice idea. Or perhaps the idea is that once you've served your time you should be given only the opportunity to return to prison.

Yeah..but that could get mighty dicey though as some other posters pointed out.
In some cases you want discrimination and not be mandated to hire.
That day care example posted above is definitely one area where you want to be very, very picky.

Well, pedophiles are permanent sex offenders, right? So they're never technically 'ex-cons' and would still be able to be rejected I would think.
I would think this protection would be for people who have served their time and are trying to get back into mainstream society, not those who are repeat offenders or on a permanent offender status.

I guarantee that Nasty Nancy and the rest of the Cali libs will somehow exclude themselves and those businesses that they patronize just like they did with the health care bill. "Ohhhh, this only applies to YOU PEOPLE, I'm special".
All jokes aside, I'd like to see us revisit how we handle non violent drug offenders. Do we need to brand them with a felony? Once you have a felony your life is pretty much ruined.
