Why are there people in this thread acting like you get to choose who backs or buys your mortgage? You, as the customer, have no say in that.

Isn't a "subsidized loan" part of the safety net? Let the b**** get a loan on the open market!

It is not hypocritical to use programs passed into legislation. What is hypocritical is to pass more programs allowing anyone to take from the pocket of another be it corporations, world banks, or individuals (regardless of income). Hypocrisy would be to not try to end the programs.

I suspect less than 50% of homeowners own their house outright. The Obamas purchased with a loan and had Rezko give them a deal for below market value on a side lot. Would you wish to propose that every POTUS candidate and member of Congress be allowed to carry no personal or business debt at all?

What exactly is a subsidized loan? I don't think you are using the right term.

Heh, These are not my people...ask the Washington Post for their sources. That's why it says "The Washington Post" as the domain name and publisher. How the hell did I become their employer, publisher, and owner of the Washington Post?

It states very clearly they refinanced this loan later to drop the interest rate further, nothing else changed. I can link it if you are too lazy to read it, but since you don't seem to understand what it says anyways...it would be a futile gesture.

This is a very simple and very clear article.

Only some one functionally illiterate, or willfully ignorant, could even could pursue this course of bizarrely insane "logic" in any debate.

Obviously you fail to understand that 90% of the loans in this nation are backed by Fannie/Freddie. Yes Katiana, even those loans on the "open market".

Are there really no banks lending their own $$$ anymore? I paid a mortgage from 1982-2009 to the very same local bank, no one but that bank ever held the note.

EXACTLY. What is so wrong with this. Only someone insane would not refi their loan to a lower rate or find anything wrong with doing this.
