At last we are starting to see some moderate Republicans breaking ranks with the lunatic fringe of the Republican party. There may be some hope yet for brokering a deal.

In today's GOP, the lunatics aren't the fringe. They are calling the shots.
There ARE a few "moderate" Republicans left, but God knows why. They are treated like pariahs.
The big interparty struggle right now for the GOP isn't between the moderates and the right wing. It's between the Establishment Far Right, and their Frankenstein's monster Tea Party, the far-far-far right shock troop fanatics, whom the GOP used to ride back into the House majority in 2010.
