The laws won't stop some people from self destructing. Same with alcohol. Some destroy themselves, most don't.

Will the states, fed control it or private growers, meth labs and crackhouses? Will crackhouses be made to pass monthly inspections by the health department? Will Monsanto create GM weed to keep the bugs away? Will the dept of Ag have control of the fields? It's easy to scream legalize all drugs but implementation is a real bugger.
I'm not screaming "legalize drugs". There is a huge difference between allowing the states to set their own laws/regulations per the US Constitution and getting the federal government out of it (intrastate vs. interstate).

Did you realize that while the drug wars go on that the FDA is granting big Pharma livences to grow marijuanna while simultaneously throwing its own citizens in jail for doing same? We have soliders risking their lives to protect heroine producing poppy fields in Afghanistan. If those are not examples of the overreach and abuse of power by the federal government in something the US Constitution gives it no enumerated powers over then what would you call it?

Just more hypocrisy by our Federal Government because it is against federal law for physicians to prescribe marijuana.

We're in Afghan now for the rare earth elements IMO. Green war so to say. Like I said getting the federal government out of it is a lot harder than saying "end the war on drugs". I see no push by anybody to even get a serious debate about legalizing anything so it's almost a moot point. Then of course we have the commerce clause you mentioned. Since some states aren't conducive to growing certain herbs of course the fed would stick they're noses into the fray. Hell they are telling farmers in Montana they have to get a CDL because eventually their products leave the state even though they're not behind the wheel. Talk about a beaurocratic mess. All it would do is create hundreds more agencies upon agencies to legalize the stuff. Just get it on the down low like everybody else does.

I always get a laugh about the "small government deficit cutting Tea Party Republicans". It's so phony.
The Tea Partier are only *****ed off because they are not in charge of everything and everyone. They are as much for small government as Al Capone was for law and order.
LOL

Cost/benefit.

$45 Billions is peas. And for what? To open up the nation to a free flow of drugs?

To remove the "War On Drugs" agenda to save $45B would just be plain stupid.

The oil pipeline from Kazakhstan to Turkey is the main reason.

It would appear that the majority of users do actually have jobs and paychecks, according to the US Dept of Labor:

Quote:
75 percent of the nation’s current illegal drug users are employed—and 3.1 percent say they have actually used illegal drugs before or during work hours.

79 percent of the nation’s heavy alcohol users are employed—and 7.1 percent say they have actually consumed alcohol during the workday.
