It looks like Boehner is taking a beating in this debt ceiling issue, and the longer it goes on, the more the sharks will circle, looking for a scapegoat. Given the strong push back he is receiving from his own party, maybe he would have been politically wiser to try to form a bipartisan agreement and win over enough Dems to pass it.

What would the pros and cons of such an approach have been?

Pro- it would be better than what is going on now.
Con- it would give too many politicians more camera time.

I think Boehner has a lot of pressure on him from all sides.

While things are not perfect, he seems to be holding up reasonably well. In the old days, this would never last this long.

Yeah , in the Old days the President got people in a room, then got 60% of the votes to pass things along. This is crazy, all we have been doing is talk about that one issue for a Month! we got real problems all over, debt ceiling always has been a thechnicality, up to now, why now? Boehner has no control over his people, the guys holding things up have been on the hill for 6 month, Christ!
