“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

-- Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006

I wonder who wrote that speech for him? He definitely didn't write it himself. He's not smart enough.

Hypocrite, or does a step-up in responsbility give one a different view on things? No fan of President Obama and really tired of all this BS on the debt ceiling. Both sides have put this country on the back burner for their own political gain. Boehner (sp) has been weakened in the past week and I don't think he will be able to recover from it.

i don't recall the president saying that the fact that we have to raise the debt ceiling is a good thing this time around either. What's the big deal?

America has a debt problem because they have a spending problem... Obama wants to keep the spending going up but he is finding that nobody wants to give him extra money to spend.... We don't have to raise taxes if all the liberals here who appreciate increased spending "donate" their money to him... alas, they rather he steal it from someone else... and that my friends is what a liberal truly is...

Obama feels he is entitled to spend, much like his constituents.

Another lovable quote: "Deficits don't matter" - Dick Cheney, when he was VP (Do Deficits Matter? | The Weekly Standard).

I guess that is why the debt ceiling was raised 7 times under W.

But, but, but.......it was a Republican that wanted to raise the debt limit then.

OP, you sure love that quote... now you're using it yourself (along with the rest of them).
