I really don't know all that much about what they do in Israel.
Having traveled to Israel it is quite intrusive. Questionning begins before you get into the airport itself, who are you, where are you going, why were you in Israel, what do you do for a living etc. Then you enter have your bag x-rayed, while a second person asks you many of the same types of questions.
Once cleared, you are now free to check in. Then you go to security. More questions etc.
It is like a subtle interrogation trying to find cracks in your story. My guess would be they spend at least 5 minutes per passenger, not counting waiting in line time. That is where I think it would fall down in the U.S. Israel has 1 main airport, the U.S. has significantly more.
The BDO's are useless. They are relying on science debunked by most psychologists etc. There was an article in Science magazine (I think) on how ineffective behavior detection is when conducted in the manner the TSA does it.
Also BDO's receive a few days training at most, the Israelis receive months of training on questioning, interrogation techniques etc. The BDO is like taking a plastic cap gun to a fight with a drug cartel.
The problem is they really do just hire anyone for the TSA jobs.
On one hand, I find it very wasteful and ridiculous.
On the other hand, I see the purprose in it (within reason. We just need better quality people working there.
Do you work for DHS or TSA? If not, then how do you know that they hire "anyone?" There is more to the hiring process than a lot of people see. Yeah, not everyone is going to have a genius IQ, but there are more quality people working there than not.
I think people are very hard on TSA. There are appearance issues that people see and they judge. Out of all of the employees on the floor, the amount of inappropriate things that happen is very small. So, you say, "We just need better quality people working there," what would you consider better quality? How many situations do you know of in relation to the amount of people in those positions? When you say, "We," what do you mean?
I think a doughnut would have a hard time getting past the typical TSA agent.
