Simply not true. Liberals do want a balanced budget amendment. The big difference is how you pay for a balance budget. Liberals have no problem paying for additional spending by raising taxes on the wealthiest AMericans, while Republicans want to balance the budget by taking money from the middle class and the poor.

In the end, they both want a balance budget amendment. The difference is on how do you balance it.

Hotair, government has NEVER raised taxes to balance the budget. Government has a very very very very very bad history of spending whatever extra money comes into the coffers. Every tax increase in the history of this country since FDR has been met with an increase in government spending, not a decrease. Can you see why it would be counterproductive and a waste?

So every time Liberals find something they want to spend more money on, we should simply raise taxes on the rich to afford it?

Do you see the fallacy of your thinking in American terms? Or does it not matter that these are American's that have earned their keep, and thus are entitled to their earnings as well?

I find this to be a particularly shame ideology coming from a fellow American.

I'm a liberal and I don't want a balanced budget amendment. I think it's a ridiculous restriction of the legitimate operations of government.

Anyone who claims the government must be like a family and balance its budget is being deceptive. There are times when it is important for a government to do deficit spending. It was the Republicans' refusal to go along with a larger stimulus package that has been responsible for the extended length of job losses we've had.

So long as the amendment does not allow a deficit for our Petroleum Wars or any other.

Oh you wanted to spend $5 trillion? What? So "hoarding" evil corporations and the East could be even more prosperous?

The reason that money didn't work in the first place is because we barely make anything Joe Smoe wanted with trickle down Keynesian orgy spending. It went straight to where the demand is and that's in Asia...

The big difference is, when the Left and the Center see a Balanced Budget Plan, they would be more likely endorse it. The most recent and closest attempt so far was, 1995.

Sadly the left is against the bba, they wouldn't even allow it to come for a vote.
