There are a handful of others, however, I can't imagine how they do surgery or any other procedures w/o their patients having the funds (e.g. insurance) to pay for it.

An interesting point was made among some in another debt ceiling forum. Made me think about the possibility that if Medicare funds are cut, would it come down to the government forcing doctors to accept Medicare patients as a condition to getting licensed?
We have allowed physicians to become an elitist class. Until that changes, the cost of healthcare is only gonna rise and consistent healthcare is gonna still be unavailable to a portion of society b/c of lack of access.
They are elite.
What we have allowed is for the recipient class to act like they are entitled to the same privileges as the provider class.

It's a part of medical care. A doctor who never does more than take off a wart may be able to run a practice w/o insurance, however, you can bet your sweet bippy that s/he refers patients out who need much of anything more than an office visit.
This ridiculous assumption, and outright fear, that governing the ability for all to have affordable healthcare in the same manner you believe in the young having access to universal education will somehow tip the scales in favour of a socialistic state I find mind numbing in it's disconnect from reality.
You already provide free schooling, welfare payments to those who refuse to work, and yes, even medical assistance and any number of benefits across the board to a broad spectrum of your citizens AND illegal aliens.
Why is affordable health care for all the only one that gets the talking points?
Why wouldn't it be far more logical to scream: "let's scrap the rest of them so we CAN create affordable health care for all"? Just asking.

Agree to disagree. There is a local doctor in Apex, NC who does not take insurance and charges very reasonable rates. He is not beholden to any insurance bureaucracy or government mandate.
Exactly what do Americans today know about "reasonable rates" when they are being ripped off by Doctors and Insurance companies everyday.
My Wife's Aunt told me that years ago health care was really affordable and the system worked. She is disgusted at how Health Care in the USA has now turned into a "cash cow" for Doctors and Insurance companies at the expense and even death of many many many Americans. It is now probably the most expensive health system in the world per capita.
The problem is not the DOCTORS,....the problem is the government medical programs and how they are administered. Physicians do not turn down patients that help pay the overhead,...but will limit those who are too costly to treat due to low reimbursement and cumbersome paperwork.
