It's painfully obvious that most people either don't know what a Socialist or Communist (both are different) are. It gets thrown around because people are either trying to feel good about themselves by using a word they don't understand, or by someone who actually believes that someone is one.
I feel that this gives a good brushing of the surface of what Socialism is:
At this current time there are NO Socialist countries, although some have Socialist programs. Socialism rejects Capitalism and capitalist parties and is an egalitarian society.
What it comes down to now, is anyone here who uses the term "Socialist" out of context does not know what they are talking about, or is trying to rile up a thread, and, either way, shouldn't be taken seriously.
Yeah, all of a sudden the youth of today knows what these things REALLY are.... LMAO! You tots have been brainwashed into believing everything you know and believe today.
Socialism- any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of good.

Not any, Communism is a separate entity from Socialism. But I'm it's just focusing on Socialism here.
Socialist today simply means anything that is perceived as un-American, e.g. European, progressive, egalitarian, secular, caring about society, based on a vision for society etc.
you do understand that socialism, marxism, communism, fascism, and liberalism all came from the progresive movement..all look for a collective...all are against FREEDOM, and INDIVIDUALISM

I don't know how old you are - but what is described will NEVER occur. Human nature as it is just doesn't work that way.
We can discuss if you like.
For instance - the page starts out with this...
Central to the meaning of socialism is common ownership. This means the resources of the world being owned in common by the entire global population.
How do you govern this? It is governed? Does this mean the oil from Africa, the Middle East, America, etc. is pooled together and given out. How does this work?

Freedom and individualism need to be limited as soon as they start to put society as a whole in danger. Your extensive body of laws and regulations does just that, but you don't call it socialism as you know society can't live without them.

Common ownership is a central attribute of communism. It's a society with no private property what so ever. Whereas socialism allows a certain amount of private property.
So the OP dons't seem to understand what is socialism and what is communism.
