Have you read the link? It seems that the people cleaning up after the attack stuck that piece of steel that was a cross up for some reason and it surely wasn't to glorify Islam.

There were plenty of rumpled pieces of metal that formed the shape of a turd as well... was there any connection people made to the turd shape of metal that happened to give them all a sense of peace and calm? Why not erect a huge misshapen lump of metal? Why the cross? "religious relic" "sign from God"... NO it's a rumpled piece of metal just like all the others. All are equally significant. Cross and turd alike.

I'm agnostic. Not atheist. I don't believe in organized religions.

I also don't believe that a cross should be erected at the WTC.

The act had nothing to do with Christendom being attacked.

Americans were attacked. There were people from all walks of life who perished at the WTC. Not Christians more than anyone else. They were all attacked equally. Quite frankly they were attacking a SYMBOL. The people were collateral damage and icing on the cake.

I see no reason to erect a cross at the WTC. The entire site stands as a memorium to the dead. There is no need to put the cross shaped wreckage there as well.

Agreed,

First and for most this is private property so they can do as they please. Now with that said, it wasn't just Christians killed during 9/11. I wouldn't mind seeing a monument built but I don't see installing a cross or other religious symbols.

It seems that you failed to see any pictures of that original cross those men who were cleaning up found and put up. I guess they should have made a turd to use but they were mostly Christians which must have something to do with it. I am pretty sure that there were more Christians killed that day than all the others combined. They attacked a symbol and now some people want to erect a symbol that a majority of people agree with. I see no reason why those who think like you do should get to decide what can and can't be done.

If the dead soldiers family want a cross or anything else it's fine. I've never heard of an atheist group wanting a cross removed from a christians gravesite.

I'm not deciding anything. I'm not in a position to make any decisions on this matter.

I don't live near the WTC. I'm not a resident of the State of New York. I don't work for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, nor do I work for Larry Silverstein.

I have an opinion. Like everyone else around this thread does.

I will tell you that I have seen pictures of the WTC wreckage that you have never seen.

One piece of wreckage is the same as any other piece of wreckage in my opinion.

The fact that one piece of wreckage struck some Christians as divine doesn't mean to me that it should be erected at the WTC memorial.

The cross is a symbol of salvation, not remembrance.

Maybe a huge mural of a mom holding an American flag in one hand and a large slice of apple pie in the other....
Oh, and she's holding a baseball with her teeth. YEAH! AMERICA, BABY!

I don't know why people think it's private property.

The WTC land is NOT PRIVATE PROPERTY.

It's on a lease from THE PORT AUTHORITY OF NY & NJ to Larry Silverstein who has the right to lease the office space and retail.

The Port Authority of NY & NJ administer that land. It's PUBLIC LAND.

Land lease deal.

It's PUBLIC LAND.
