I hope this guy secured tenure and some grants for the forseeable future. The establishment isn't going to like his findings.

Marginalizing is much less messy than just killing him. Fire him, never grant him tenure, reject all his publications in the peer-review process, cut off all grant money. He'll eventually get the message and find AGW religion again.

Sound advice I offer any new libertarian or conservative graduate student hoping to enter into a faculty position: pretend to be apolitical to your colleagues. If they press, pretend to be a liberal. Once you get tenure or have racked up enough long-term research goals, you may "come out of the closet" and begin telling those people your true political affiliation.
