I think the thing that disturbs most people about the left pulling the race card is that if a person indicates that possibly Obama is not doing the greatest job of any president in history, then many on this forum immediately jump in calling them a racist. If i'm not mistake, Casper has used this tactic in the past. For sure I can name a number who have!

On the SS and Medicare question, while it is probably possible to refuse both, it would be very unwise to refuse Medicare in particular since the system is set up to make Medicare and supplements the only insurance available once you reach 65. Would you be suggesting the TP people should go uninsured? Case in point I had a very good private insurance policy for several years prior to reaching 65. A month before I reached 65 I received notification that this policy would be cancelled when I reached 65, and I would not be able to continue to have private insurance. My only option if I was to be insured was to go with Medicare. Personally I have no problem with changes to Medicare that would make it more sustainable such as making recipients pay higher copays. I think a lot of the problems we have now are due to people expecting insurance to pay for every hangnail.

I would say her book, The Virtue of Selfishness, has become the handbook of the Tea Party. Wouldn't you? That's where she is quoted as saying: "Accepting any government control is delivering oneself into gradual enslavement." She's also well known for saying that altruism in "basic evil" and we all know the Tea party people don't want to help anyone but themselves.

you still show an ignorance of the Tea Party and fiscal conservatives. You really need to get an education.

Disciples of Ayn Rand's philosophy of selfishness now dominate the thinking of the leadership of the conservative movement and the Republican Party. There is no way around it. Republican budget leader Rep. Paul Ryan says Rand is his guide. Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) says Rand's Atlas Shrugged is his "foundation book." Senator Rand Paul is named after her (or not). Clarence Thomas requires his law clerks to watch The Fountainhead. Fox News promotes Rand. Conservative blogs promote Rand. Glenn Beck has been promoting Rand for years. So has Rush. This isn't recent, Alan Greenspan lived with the Rand cult and promoted and implemented her ideas.
Dave Johnson: The Not-So-Loyal Opposition

Much of the Republican Party has morphed into a radical, cult-like group. Many are now followers of Ayn Rand, the novelist/philosopher who espoused a vision of a society divided into "producers"-- the "job-creators"--and the rest of us, the "parasites" and "leeches" who use democracy to "loot" the wealth of the deserving business owners. As Yaron Brook and Don Watkinsof the Ayn Rand Center for Individual Rights.

In answer to your question...

The Tea Party is Ayn Rand.

Barely. She was influential but the Tea Party is not primarily founded on Ayn Rand principles. You can take some ideas from a person without following everything they say. I have yet to hear the tea party take the stance that altruism is evil.

I will also add that quite a few great historical figures have been crazy as all hell.

Who cares about crazy ass Ayn Rand? The Tea Party is foolish in their own way, no need to attack them through her.

That's the point. She was demented and the average working class American is being attacked through her beliefs. I'm so glad that I started two threads about this deranged woman and her influence on people that influence legislation. If you read her history from early in her life, her bat crap craziness is evident and to have her philosophies play a major role in governement decision making is sickening and should be kept front and center. If you search through this thread, I've posted some very revealing facts about her cult following that is influencing the influential.

What does the tea party want? To cut spending. That's pretty much what it comes down to. You can take something away from a book without being a fan of serial killers. Who in the tea party has espoused that view?

Nobody with a brain or with even half a brain is buying the Tea Party agenda as one that will benefit anyone or anything but the wealthy and Corporate America. Maybe it started out with good intentions at its roots, but it was hijacked by extremists and Neocons.
