True... I was watching this closely and thought that they called the downgrade off ... seems it went through after all.
No... what happened was the White House tried to lie to S&P about the "trillions" that they have... the S&P saw through the lies and proceeded to downgrade... they don't deal in fictional trillions...
My guess is the folks who insist on pursuing this line of argument will be shunned as pariahs going forward. They don't contribute anything meaningful to the discussion, and really are the cause of the problems.

Wow... so you are saying the GOP didn't want to cut spending? The Credit agencies wanted 4 Trillion in cuts... we ALL know who don't want the cuts... stop spinning BS...
And what is so crazy is that the ratings agencies TOLD US that they wanted to see $4T in cuts. We basically spit in their faces with the debt ceiling deal. Why didn't our elected officials stave off this downgrade by actually making the necessary cuts?
They waited until Friday evening to do this for a reason. This was an intentional slap in the face, kicking us while we're down. The markets are all going to tank because of this.

With all the panic selling going on the last few days, they knew that if they announced it during trading, people would have freaked out and the markets would have gone down the toilet. We'll still probably have a down day on Monday, but I guess they're hoping that it won't be as bad if professionals who make up the bulk of trading have a time to process the information.
