Reuters) - A former Pennsylvania juvenile court judge was sentenced on Thursday to 28 years in prison for accepting payment to send juveniles to a for-profit detention facility in a scandal dubbed "kids for cash,".
Former Luzerne County Juvenile Court Judge Mark Ciavarella, 61, accepted nearly $1 million from a developer who built the detention facility, prosecutors said.

This is what happens when you mix incarcerating people with making a profit.
However, this time, someone actually got caught. Heh.
Good. We had that dark shadow hovering over us for a while. Say no to private prisons and those corrupt judges. He should have gotten an even harsher punishment because he destroyed those kids' lives well into their adulthood
He should have gotten an even harsher punishment ......
At 61 years of age he will probably die in prison, it's basically life. If he were to live out the sentence it would be nearly 1/3 of his life spent in prison. I'm not sure what else you could do to make it harsher other than a life sentence or execution.
So you want to use ONE example and make broad generalizations of the prison system... smart... real smart...
There are other examples of this sort of thing happening. This case just happens to be a current and perfect example. Privately run prisons are an open invitation for corruption.
This case is a perfect example of why we shouldn't privatize our prison system the way a lot of Republicans want to do and have done in some states.
Excellent point. It's ruining young lives for profits.
How are we to know if others have done the same thing?
