Under this new law, individuals who are in office before January 1, 1997, will continue to receive Secret Service protection for their lifetime. Individuals elected to office after that time will receive protection for 10 years after leaving office. Therefore, President Clinton will be the last president to receive lifetime protection.

Thankfully, we're only on the hook for Clinton, and maybe Viagra will call him south early. 10 years is exactly 10 years too long for "ex-presidents and their families", though.
That was repealed by congress in January 2013. Now it is lifelong protection. Here is an article about the change. Protection

Wow....that is f**king amazing, because I pulled my info right off the SS site. Pathetic that our government is essentially lying online on a .gov site.

But even more pathetic that they now have lifetime protection. They simply aren't worth protecting for the rest of their lives. I fail to see any value in any of them, and the last thing we need is Clinton/Bush/Obama "consulting" to any future administrations.
