If you frequent Immigration discussions you will always hear that one person bring up "Oh well we arent even suppose to be here, Native Indians are the only true Americans"

Problem is this happend when? in the 1500s? and people are still seriously bringing it up likes it relevant in 2013!

Its been thousands of years, Natives didnt fight hard enough so they lost their land.

Some were brainwashed into thinking they should forget their language, in boarding schools, until a few decades ago.

There was that near sale of the Black Hills land the Lakota Sioux find sacred a few months ago. It was private property that its owner was attempting to sell, but still was seemingly quite important to the Sioux.

Or unity, or nearly as hazardous of diseases as the Europeans inadvertently brought over, or resistance to such diseases, or knowledge of the practice of quarantines....and many of them sided with the descendants of Europeans against their enemies in other tribes.

They should have been more racist...everybody against the white people. They might have done better.

2013 - 1500 = 513 years. Your grasp of mathematics is almost as shaky as your grasp of history.

Actually, if you bothered to study history you would realize that it wasn't until after the Civil War that the European invasion really took off. Up until then, there were certain areas of the continent that hadn't seen any white settlers and were still occupied by the native indigenous tribes. After the Civil War, however, we had a large number of trained soldiers with not much to do combined with a national desire to expand westward which led to the decimation and incarceration of the people who had been living in those areas since before Europeans figured out how to build a ship that could sail across the ocean. This was done not only by sending armed soldiers against villages, but also by spreading diseases which Native Americans had built up no immunity to and by slaughtering the bison which were the main source of food for many of the tribes that covered the great plains region of the continent.

Quite frankly, if slavery can still be brought up as some sort of relevant excuse or justification for current political points of view, then it stands to reason that something which happened after slavery was abolished is just as relevant to current political discussions.

You realize you saying this nullifies your argument against immigrants today.

I was under the impression that there have been zero recorded incidents of purposely spreading diseases amongst Native Americans by white Americans.

That's according to my college teacher.

Just saying, I'm sure some people did it...just it wasn't seemingly a common enough practice to be widely known about.
Perhaps I should have put the disease part in a separate sentence. You are correct that there is little evidence showing a purposeful spreading of disease among the Indian tribes during the decade immediately following the Civil War. That doesn't, however, change the dramatic effect which diseases such as smallpox had on those tribes and the societies which were affected. As a side note, the first recorded instance of attempting to use smallpox infected blankets as a form of warfare against Indians was in 1763 at Fort Pitt in what is now Pennsylvania.

Thanks for pointing out that my post wasn't quite clear. That's what I get for trying to type a response while also trying to convince the kids that they need to be going to bed.

If you bothered to read my post further you'd realize that the rest of your argument doesn't hold water either. It really isn't a laughing matter when people don't know basic history and arithmetic.
