I think it's actually an interesting question. I'm not talking about Obama here, let's say we one day elected a President who's a particularly ruthless monster who pushes legislation that severely limits our civil liberties (think V for Vendetta or Nazi Germany here). A President who starts ordering the military to invade Canada (for no reason other than conquest) and who also orders it to start suppressing any sort of dissent within the US.

Would servicemembers still be beholden to carrying out his/her orders? I'd say that at that point they'd most certainly be defending the Constitution.

Well he can try to order it but without the approval of congress? Also I doubt any general will order the launch of cruise missles against a known friendly.

Really, the Manchurian Candidate?

We have a congress that can countermand the president's orders, y'know. It would take a lot of brainwashing to get them all (yeah, yeah, no jokes).

I know what you're insinuating, and it's not the brightest thing I've ever heard. You may not like Obama's policies, but that doesn't mean he is a "domestic enemy". By the way, yur Constitution came up with a brilliant way of dealing with presidents whose policies we don't like: it's called an "election".
However, we have to survive the four year term to use election to do away with an undesirable President. Whose Constitution are you referring when you say your Constitution and than talk about whose policies we don't like. Either you aren't one of us or you are in favor of replacing that Constitution with one written by progressives.

If our courts can't countermand this President as was proved by his actions concerning the gulf drilling I wonder if the Congress can. With Dirty Harry and his group controlling the Senate I doubt any countermanding will ever take place.

i hear you on that brother. i was in at the end of the nam conflict and i guess the height of the cold war. we were there to defend against comunism. now we have a president that embraces socialism and marxism. he goes over and bows to our enemies kings. all the years of having a feared military and keeping our foes in control and now we are going to be their buddies.

i know alot of active duty and alot of veterans. they have absolutely no respect for obama. they despise him. if the civilian employment situation was better alot of them would be gone. the way they are running Afghanistan and iraq is an embarassment. a comander in chief that was never in the military cant be an effective commander in chief
